Roof coverings on properties this old, where they've survived or been sympathetically replaced, need proper period matching rather than a standard modern material swapped in without a second thought.

Walton sits within an Environment Agency-designated flood risk area along the Thames, and this isn't a theoretical concern. Storm Henk caused documented flooding at Wheatley's Eyot in January 2024, with properties affected externally, part of a wider pattern that also hit neighbouring riverside towns like Staines the same month.

On lower-lying streets closer to the river, we take gutter capacity and drainage seriously as a standard part of the inspection, not as an afterthought. A blocked or undersized gutter doesn't cause a flood on its own, but on a property already close to the water table, it removes one avoidable water pathway rather than adding to the problem.
