My name's John Quilligan. Roofing has been in my family for three generations, and Weybridge, particularly the St George's Hill estate, has one of the more unusual property histories on our entire patch.

The half tile-hung elevations that characterised many of these properties, tiles fixed to the wall in overlapping rows rather than laid flat as a roof covering, is a specialist technique that most general roofers rarely encounter, similar in principle to the fishscale tile hanging found on period buildings elsewhere in Surrey.

Matching materials on a property like this means understanding the original construction, not applying a standard modern repair method to something built over a century ago. Getting it wrong doesn't just look inconsistent, it can compromise how the wall or roof section actually sheds water, since these techniques were developed specifically to work together as a system.
